Year Round Schooling vs. Traditional Schedule

We are in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Era of Education in America. What that means is that schools are held to certain standards based on Standardized Tests. Furthermore, NCLB is also thought of as accountability. Schools are held accountable in ensuring that all students at that school reach a certain standard. I will not delve into the superficial nature of the standards, but I will discuss in this blog the need for a new way of making sure that all students reach the standards states have set. My argument is that traditional school schedule is inadaquet for our crop of students today. Society has changed so much from when we were an agarian society. We are highly technical and service oriented now, so our schools and other social institutions must change to adaquetly meet the needs of society today. The status quo is insufficent in providing the time and flexibility that's need to allow teachers, administrators and students to meet the state standards let alone international standards. American rank is number 14 in the world on Math and Science scores as compared to other industrilized nations. My principal always say that smart is time on task. As a public, we need to make it our task to provide more time so that our children can be more competitive in the world economy.
